One of the most important things one owns, regardless of whatever else happens, is one’s identity and information. Efforts to end homelessness ultimately begin and end with the people experiencing homelessness. This means that it is critical to have the voices of people experiencing homelessness and those who work with them each day have a voice in the data that HUD requires be collected in the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS). As part of the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 HMIS Data Standards update process, HUD is inviting people experiencing homelessness, front line staff, Continuums of Care (CoCs), HMIS Leads, and other partners to the table to provide feedback on potential updates to the HMIS Data Standards.

Next week on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 from 3:00 to 4:00 PM EST, HUD is sponsoring HMIS Data Standards Office Hours. The Office Hours outline the HMIS Data Standards review process and highlight opportunities for individuals and communities to provide feedback before May 31, 2025. The session will include a brief presentation on the Facilitator’s Guide on Getting Feedback about the FY 2027 HMIS Data Standards followed by community members from Snohomish County, WA sharing their experience using a similar guide to offer feedback during the last HMIS Data Standards review process.
