MidCoast Homeless Persons Memorial Service

Tedford Housing invites the public to its annual Homeless Memorial Service to be held on Thursday, December 19th at 4:30 pm at Mid-Coast Hunger Prevention , 84A Union Street, Brunswick.  The service will be led by Tedford Board Member, Rev. Bill Bliss of the Neighborhood Faith Community, UCC in Bath and Rev. John Carson of Elijah Kellogg Congregational Church, Harpswell.  Local musician and Tedford Director of Operations Giff Jamison will provide music.  Light refreshments will be offered. Weather permitting, those gathered  will process from Union Street to the gazebo on the Brunswick green where the names of homeless individuals in our community who have passed away during past year will be read and the individuals will be remembered.

Since 1990  homeless prevention and advocacy groups across the country have been recognizing National Homeless Memorial Day during the Winter Solstice.  Tedford Housing’s Executive Director Craig A. Phillips says “ the Winter Solstice reminds of us the challenges and struggles of families and individuals who do not have a stable home, who are homeless on this, the day with the greatest amount of darkness. The next day, though is a bit brighter, as is the next.”
