MaineHousing invites you to attend a public hearing as we develop the HUD 2016 National Housing Trust Fund (NHTF)  Allocation Plan.   The Allocation Plan will describe how the state will implement the NHTF and will establish criteria for selection of recipients.

We are seeking input on how the NHTF should be allocated.

The NHTF is a federal program that provides funding for affordable housing for Extremely Low Income households with incomes at or below 30 percent of area median income. A state must use at least 80 percent of each annual grant for rental housing; and may use up to 10 percent for home ownership; and up to 10 percent for the grantee’s reasonable administrative and planning costs.

NHTF funds may be used for the production or preservation of affordable housing through acquisition, new construction, reconstruction, and/or rehabilitation of non-luxury housing with suitable amenities.  All NHTF- assisted units will be required to have a minimum affordability period of 30 years.

The State of Maine will be receiving $3 million dollars from the National Housing Trust Fund in 2016.

Please join us at 1pm on June 7th in Room 208 of the Cross State Office Building in Augusta.

After this public hearing, MaineHousing will prepare a draft allocation plan and will seek additional public comment.
