Please Take the VA CHALENG Survey- for providers of homeless services.

Maine VA Health Care System

1 VA Center, Augusta, ME 04330

November 5, 2013

Thank you for your willingness to help the Homeless Programs at the VA Maine HCS.

Since 1994 the VA has sought to gather information about the needs of our Veterans who are homeless.  The CHALENG (Community Homelessness Assessment, Local Education and Networking Groups) survey asks both Veterans and community agencies to identify the top needs that are successfully being met as well as the top needs that are not being met.

The guiding principle behind Project CHALENG is that no single agency can provide the full spectrum of services required to help homeless Veterans become productive members of society. Project CHALENG enhances coordinated services by bringing the VA together with community agencies and other federal, state, and local governments who provide services to the homeless to raise awareness of homeless Veterans’ needs and to plan to meet those needs.

Since 2012 the VA has attempted to implement the survey electronically.  This is the link to the survey:

A survey like this is not possible without your help.  Please accept our appreciation.

A Short Film: Doing Well by Doing Good

From Greg Payne of the Maine Affordable Housing Coalition, a new 6½ minute film, presented at the recent Affordable  Housing Conference.

Doing Well by Doing Good: The Economic Impact of Affordable Housing.

The general idea of this project has been to highlight the job creation associated with affordable housing development in a human and personal way. The hope is that the images and narrative offered in the film effectively convey the underlying message that affordable housing development creates both desperately needed homes and critical jobs in Maine.

Until it is resolved, if you want to register for the mainehomelessplanning site and have an email address that ends in or please register using the the registration form then also go to and post a ‘help request saying that you have registered to make sure we get it.
